Rethinking the protection of personal information in light of the challenges raised by AI

The Quebec Access to Information Commission launched a consultation this winter on a series of principles aimed at framing issues relating to the protection of personal information in the context of the use of artificial intelligence.

OBVIA has launched a consultation process with some of its members with the aim of obtaining feedback from experts from various disciplinary backgrounds. The result is a white paper that brings together the opinions of researchers in law, computer engineering and health. The Université de Montréal’s Cyberjustice Laboratory, an Observatory partner, also submitted detailed comments, which have been incorporated into this document.

The main objectives of the document are:

• To offer a synthesis, which is understandable for the greatest number, of the legal issues and technologies associated with the protection of personal information in the era of artificial intelligence

• To propose a concerted and interdisciplinary approach for better protection of personal information in the era of artificial intelligence in Quebec.

The document is available here (in French).
